Episode 37 - Instagram as a socio-economic research tool
(with Inbar Michelzon)
Episode notes:
Instagram is free, but does that mean that it is indifferent to socio-economic, racial, and cultural differences? Inbar Michelzon, a PhD candidate in Bar-Ilan University (Israel) is conducting a socio-digital research on the implications of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds over the experiences of teens from different classes.
In this episode Inbar chats with Danni about her decision to get into researching the underdeveloped field of youth and social media, and especially girls and Instagram. She talks about the cultural imposed shaming of "slags" and "sluts" on girls from certain classes and how it had affected her decision to proceed to a PhD research. Inbar also talks about the importance of a good PhD supervisor and how important it is to have a supervisor that you can talk openly with.
In this episode Inbar drank simple coffee and Danni drank of course, her Amaretto.
